The Deputy Director is responsible for assisting and advising the Executive Director in the overall management of the Library; for the strategic implementation of all aspects of public service operations; and developing an environment that cultivates and ensures consistent, courteous, and responsive service to all internal and external contacts. The Deputy Director acts as Director in the Executive Director's absence.

The Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL) seeks an experienced and innovative Deputy Director of Public Services, to oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of library-wide programs and services that support STDL’s mission and values. This position will help manage the programs, services, and operations of our Youth/Teen; Reference; Fiction, Movies, and Music, Programming and Outreach, as well as Digital Services, and the branch locations of Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. Additionally, the selected and qualified candidate will work collaboratively on STDL’s Management Team, playing a critical and active role in guiding policy and decision making.

This position requires an ALA accredited MLS with 7 years of public library experience with at least 5 years of upper-level management or administrative experience. The successful candidate will be a forward-thinker, committed to excellence in customer services; understand the Library’s central role in the community; and have a demonstrated history or strong knowledge base of:

  • Communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills;
  • Innovative and current technologies, experience in best practices in original programming, evaluative measures that help tell the Library’s story, skill in building and sustaining community partnerships;
  • IL library laws and rules as well as understanding finances and the budget process development;
  • Innovative, diverse and successful program planning for various library-user groups.

Full Time at 37.5 per week; some evenings and weekends, as needed.
