We have a staff of trained librarians here to help you find your next favorite book.
The first floor of the Central Library is the home of our fiction titles, and the librarians who work there are especially good at "readers advisory" – meaning we'll put a novel in your hands that you're going to love.
The most common question we get is from people saying they really liked an author and would like something similar to read. The second most common request is more open-ended: "I want to read something good."
It's up to us to find out what "something good" means to you. Romance? Mystery? Romance and mystery? We'll find something perfect for you – even if it means it's not our go-to genre.
Librarian Jessica leans toward sci-fi and fantasy, Jane and Kirsten like mystery, while Amy and Allison focus on fiction. But they're still well-versed in what's good in other areas.
"I'm not a huge mystery reader, but our patrons are," said Fiction Manager Emily Vinci. "So it's in my best interest and our patrons best interest to keep abreast of what's going on."
(Emily loves graphic novels, by the way!)
In addition to readers advisory, the Fiction Department also runs our paperback exchange and hosts a series of book discussions. It's also the place where you can find a Kindle Paperwhite to check out, already pre-loaded with popular new titles. Stop by the next time you're in the Library and see what we have to offer!
