This year's Summer Challenge is bringing back some old cartoon favorites like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian – all of which were created by legendary animator Chuck Jones.

We're calling it the Chuck Jones Summer of Creativity!

The Summer Challenge is a family-friendly program that makes it simple for everyone to participate together. Simply read books or complete activities (you earn your first badge just for registering!). Earn any five badges for your chance to win a prize. Kids get a book; teens and adults get a chance to win a gift card.

This year, we've partnered with The Backyard Experience, an affiliate of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity Chicagoland

Around the Library you'll notice displays popping up featuring Chuck Jones' archives, artifacts, and even his actual animation desk on the second floor. But that's just the start, because we've got a bunch of events planned all summer long.

You can learn how to draw a character just like Chuck Jones did by taking a 20-minute Daffy's How to Draw Class.

We'll also be hosting Animation Academy classes, covering the steps it takes to create an animated cartoon, including story development, character design, story boarding and animation.

"We've never done anything like this before and can't wait to introduce our patrons to the world of Chuck Jones!" Creative Services Librarian Stephanie Driscoll said. "This year's Summer Challenge is so much more than just a reading program, with this exhibit and the many programs supporting it, we're really giving everyone a complete creative experience."

The Summer Challenge runs June 1 - Aug. 17, 2019. Sign up now!
