Transfer your media using specialized equipment available at the Library.

New to the transfer equipment?

Staff assistance is available to help you get started. When submitting your reservation request, select the option for staff assistance and briefly describe your project. A staff member will guide you through the equipment and software, so you’ll be ready to transfer independently in the future.

What you'll need

Some equipment requires an SD card, USB drive, or DVD-R. SD cards and USB drives are available for checkout from for Schaumburg Library cardholders.

In-Library Equipment

  • 8mm/Super8 Reel to MP4 (SD card required 32 GB max) (conversion takes about 45 minutes for 3" diameter of film and 6 hours for 7" diameter; no audio transfer)
  • Audio Cassette/Vinyl to MP3 (USB drive or Cloud storage required)
  • CD/DVD duplicator (CD or DVD required)
  • Mini DV to MP4/DVD (USB drive, Cloud storage or DVD-R required)
  • Negative Film (35mm), Slide (110, 126, 127), Film (8mm) to JPEG (SD card required 32 GB max)
  • Negative Film (35mm), Slide (135,127), Film (120), microfiche to JPEG (SD card required 128 GB max)
  • VHS/VHS-C/Beta to MP4/DVD (USB drive, Cloud storage or DVD-R required)
  • Video8/Hi-8 to MP4/DVD (USB drive, Cloud storage or DVD-R required)

Home Use Equipment for Schaumburg Library Cardholders

Time Limit

Transfer equipment is available for up to four hours per person, per day. Reservation requests may be made up to two weeks in advance. Reservations will be cancelled if a group does not show up within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. Please submit requests at least three days in advance if you need assistance. Most transfer equipment operates in real time (i.e., one hour of video will take approximately one hour to transfer). 8mm reels takes about 45 minutes for 3" diameter of film and 6 hours for 7" diameter. Equipment may be used in the Library. If used in a study room, a two-hour limit applies.

Use

Personal information stored on the computer will be deleted upon logoff. Schaumburg Library is not responsible for any damage to a user's property while used in conjunction with Library equipment. The person reserving the equipment is responsible for any damage to the equipment. Please report all problems to staff immediately.
